If you are just starting out in your study of Intarsia, this is the guide for you. Every step is detailed with great photos providing a clear path to understanding. As a former teacher, I can only compliment the writer on a well thought out approach to her instruction.

Kathy Wise breaks down the sometimes difficult art of intarsia into easy-to-follow steps so that any beginner (with a little knowledge of power tools) can achieve satisfactory results. Each step is explained in detail and there are many photographs in the “Get Started” section that show clearly what to do next to create your own piece of wood art.
Kathy’s included patterns range from simple to a level that can be appreciated by any experienced intarsian.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in this very intriguing style of woodworking.

I would say that this book on Intarsia is one of the best books in my library. Kathy Wise, in her introduction, presents a common sence approach to Intarsia. She encourages a person to develope thier skills to accomplish the end results to thier satisfaction. This book contains patterns for the beginner to the advanced Intaria artist. The beginner just starting out should advance to a skilled artist by followind her detailed instructions. A Intarsia artist for more than 20 years, I highly recommend this book. This book is perfect for all skill levels. It covers not only the use of the scroll saw but also discusses wood selection, contour sanding, assembly, and finishing. In short, it covers everything you want to learn about Intarsia. The author also does an excellent job of sharing her “tricks” and methods for developing an intarsia piece. The included designs and design sheets are worth more than the purchase price of the book. This is just one of those great books.
